This hyperactive remix is going to be to the dancefloor what strings are to a marionette. Think helpless partygoers, unable to keep their bodies from moving, finally succumbing to dehydration towards mid-morning. Think emergency vehicles lined up outside the nightclub, transporting still smiling and twitching victims away to the hospital for physical, and ultimately psychiatric care.
Don Diablo, shame on you and your evil powers! Keep it coming, baby …..
Where would DnB be without veteran producer A Sides? I guess after almost twenty years in the business, mad skillz are to be expected. But A Sides was probably born that way, popping out of his mommy’s womb gurgling “Boh, Selecta!”
As much as I was looking forward to hearing his latest release, I had a doubt or two. “Who is this Deeizm chick?”, I thought to myself. Because I generally prefer DnB sans diva vocals. Sure enough, when I queued up “Just Be“, I’m like, “uh, ok, when does that stop?”. Meaning the breathy R&B-ish vocals:
A few minutes later, I was like, “whoa, this is DnB delicious!” Not only can Deeizm (aka Shelly D (aka Shelley Fizzle Debenizzle!)) carry a tune, she can write great songs too. “Just Be” is a genuine collaboration, not an A Sides track with some girl-vox thrown in. I stand corrected, embarrassingly so.
The original mix is classic smooth but not-too-smooth jazz DnB. Your sound system could safely broadcast these waves while your grandma is visiting. Not too loud, of course.
The Influx UK remix, on the other hand, would give granny a jolt. This track KILLS:
I love it! Send Deeizm and A Sides some gold. We must encourage them to continue working on their relationship.
Thanks to the culture of television, whenever I see Olivier Gregoire’s nom-de-dancefloor I imagine Peter Falk as “Columbo“. Peter Falk saying “Just one more thing ….” as he turns back into the doorway with a surprise question designed to trip up the overconfident criminal.
Kolombo is not even remotely connected to the ’70s TV show (or at least I assume not). Even so, his new ultracool tech house track “I’m On Your Side” revisits the question repeatedly, with escalating ardor. And what’s the question? You decide:
The original mix is outstanding. This remix from Nikitin & Semikashev kicks it up a notch. Case closed.
